Same is true in US and Canada, trucks are loopholed for safety to save production costs.

    Small cars have all but disappeared from the market, even a Civic is HUGE compared to a Civic from 20 years ago... but it's also a lot safer (check the crash tests between similar vehicles from the 1990s and contemporary ones).

    I'm in Canada and for winter driving up north you definitely want a larger vehicle with decent ground clearance.
