Why didn't the left move to a different party or at least a new leader?

Brazil has multiple parties. I myself voted for another left candidate. The problem is that everyone has been brainwashed into only considering 2 candidates

That sucks, I think presidential systems tend favor 2 parties/coalitions, is there any chance continuous elections between 2 bad choices could lead to that kind of reform, I think most presidential weakenings were in former USSR countries as they understandibly didn't want to have presidents getting too strong.

Believe or not bolsonaro (father) is from a party that wasnt one of the main 2 so there is a chance of breaking the duopoly, unfortunately as you can see, that doesnt always improve the situation (its just a different duopoly now)

  • Many such cases, you can vote in a new party in a 2 party system (the Two round system is better for this than FPTP), but it's next to impossible to break the 2 party dynamic that is sort of inevitable when you have a strong president, almost everyone is going to have to pick a side.
