The fact Amendment 3 was voted down is seriously damning. The organisers of this motion say they don't intent for this motion to be used to target Jewish members, but the fact putting this into writing got voted down is concerning and just plain looks bad optically.

This also commits the Greens to a political settlement (single state) that the majority of Palestinians don't want, which makes this line from the synopsis all the more baffling:

[This motion] further affirms the right to self-determination and liberation of the Palestinian people and supports the establishment of a single democratic Palestinian State in all of historic Palestine.

Why is an English/Welsh party deciding what self-determination for Palestinians looks like, especially when it goes against the opinions of Palestinians actually living in Palestine?

Given the role of the British empire in the history of modern Palestine, they do have more of an obligation to make things right than most nations.

The British were fighting the Nazis and some Arab groups sided with the axis (mostly against the British colonialism). The naza tried hard to get to what is now Isreal and had special death squads set up to go in. The war solidified the need for a Jewish state, and it wasn't just a random decision, nor was the animosity between the Jews and Arabs new - many Jews saw the Arabs as extensions of the Nazis that had tried to exterminate their race. So what was Britain to do? Let the Nazis win? They created Isreal as per the new world government. It was a shitshow, but it was a shitshow well before Isreal was created.
This is not a commentary related to the current genocide that Isreal is doing. I think Isreal has lost its right to be a country as it is now. But who's going to impose a new 'solution' - you know in 50 years people will be saying this new solution, whatever it might be, is morally reprehensible.

DSA did the same thing, we basically spent more time debating our exact position on Palestine than anything that could make us a relevant national org (like internal democracy), and nobody cares, like I couldn't even tell you how I voted or what outcome was.

Obviously it's a bit different as the Greens are an actual party, but anything more specific than self-determination is LARPing, did they at least pair it with something useful like a commitment to an arms embrago & BDS?

The GPEW has supported those for a while, they even reaffirmed their committent to both in 2024 when they voted to recognise Israel as an apartheid state.

This motion does do some good things, like calling for Palestinian prisoners to be released and de-prescribing Palestine Action. Here's the full motion if you're interested (the important part isn't too long), I'd link to it directly but you need to be a party member to see it. There was some amendments proposed, but the only one that past was removing some commitments in other documents to pursuing a two state solution – which I think is equally absurd position for the GPEW to have.

This whole motion has taken so much of the oxygen in the party and all it will materially do nothing. Like I do think racism is an integral and inseparable component of Zionism, but I just don't think this motion has or will do any good.
