been playing wardogs a lot, but I think I've had my fill at this point cause of voip. Nothing but bigotry and slurs and "what if we were all gay guys haha" humor. Text chat is just as bad, had someone saying Japan used to be "honorable" when they were "conquering countries" and idk it's rust all over again; really fun game driven by social interactions that's ruined by the social interactions. Seems like it'd be a lot of fun with friends, but I don't have any that play and it's impossible to make friends with people like that being a part of every vocal interaction. Why's this gotta be my taste in games, I hate this shit

I know exactly what you mean. Overwatch was ok back in the day, though not as ok for me as for most of my friends who played because speaking in voice chat as a woman flips a switch in like 40% of the playerbase. A couple other games have been generally ok with voice chat. But anything with modern military aesthetics is gonna draw the same 4chan crowd who thinks saying the n-word is the pinnacle of humor

    I dont think racism is exclusive to 4chan. To me it seems just to be teenage boy gamer brain. (ofc you have far right 4chan types in these games) but imho the base line community in many FPS games is just gamer edgelords.

    I guess what I would say is that . yes 4chan types play these games but the racism that happens in these games is firmly mainstream.

    EDIT : I think I should have phrased this differently. The point that im trying to make is that when you say 4chan crowd. It might seem to some people that racism in gaming is some niche thing. When frankly racism and edginess is basically just the norm in most gaming communities. Its not some niche thing like 4chan.... but out in the open for everyone to see, like on twitter.

    I mean, to me, it does feel like a niche. It's a very specific vibe I've only felt in Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, and other military shooters along those lines, and a few other games that draw the same crowd (like Rust as OP mentioned) that happens to be the exact same vibe as you find on 4chan. You can say it's mainstream because these games I'm talking about are mainstream, but if you avoid those types of games you can go years without hearing the n-word.

    I guess I get where you are coming from ? My point was just that A LOT of multiplayer gaming (and we are talking about massive communities here) Are very racist and casual slur usage is very common. Which I dont think should be understated. But yes ofc there are plenty other games that are much more chill than say a Call of Duty Lobby.

    Idk, it just sounds to me like you're reading into it that by "4chan crowd" I mean some like tiny population that happens to play these games. The 4chan crowd is enormous. The 4chan crowd currently runs the US government.

    I do remember seeing a lot of racism in Battlefield 1942, which came out a year before 4chan launched, so yeah I think there's a lot of mainstream racism independent of 4chan. But then again, 4chan has been embedded in honkey culture now for a long-ass time. There are people who graduated college and are now having kids who were born after /b/ became a thing.
