Interesting, I speak Czech and here it's still more common to call it a zoological garden than a zoo, while it's the other way round in English

the proper name is animal garden anyway. tiergarten. állatkert. none of this foreign zoo stuff.

We still use "botanical garden" in English for the plant version of the zoo, that's neat.

i think in 1907 it was still officially named a "zoological park" but "zoo" was in the process of becoming the common usage

To be fair it might have been a petting zoo which at the time may have been new (so treated as kind of a zoo, but not really)
