I'm convinced that Sony and Microsoft formed an agreement to both enshittify. Sony dropped the ball but Microsoft isn't even trying to capitalise on that failure. Competition would usually immediately hit any signs of weakness but Microsoft isn't even doing it. From the looks of it, Microsoft is even doing their own mistakes alongside Sony.

They don't care about the consumer market anymore. All the money in society moved to the top 10% and those are their customers now.

MS aren't trying to capitalise because they were already planning to do the same thing. Maybe for the fact they did it first, Sony are getting all the heat while the other players are sitting back waiting for it to blow over. And it will.

The fact is, most people don't want physical media. Even the people complaining aren't really complaining about physical media, they are complaining about buying a licence to software, which has been a thing longer than most people complaining have been alive.

Enshittification happens all over the world in almost every company. It isn't limited to those two console makers.

So i doubt they would need to form an agreement on this.
