Can you imagine a customer writing new terms of service and sending it to the company and expecting it to become a binding contract if they don’t immediately cancel the subscription?

I could have sworn this is actually legal, in the sense of "silence is acknowledgement". I mean, isn't it the point of negotiation? One side pass proposals, the other side has to react.
