Hello everyone. Sorry I forgot to post this last week. I had family visiting me and my mind was occupied. Then I meant to post it on Monday and forgot again, so I just said "ah fuck it" and wait until today. Anyway, this week I continued with my playthrough of Pokémon Omega Ruby. I have finished getting all the gym badges, but instead of marching straight to the elite 4 I am doing some clean up while powerleveling my newly caught Bagon (now a Shelgon) in to Salamence, which is one of my favorite pokemon all time. I also finally resumed my Elden Ring seamless co-op playthrough with my brother. We are fully ensconced in the DLC, and have beaten the Dancing Lion and Rellana. I hope you all have a good week!

I wanted to get the edition that included the expansion but it was $90... yikes I'll get the DLC someday when it goes on sale digitally.

That's really cool you're reading the original story with your kid. What do you think of Collodi's writing? As is probably the case with most people in Burgerland, my only associations with the title Pinocchio were via the disney slop. Enough so that it seemed like a bizarre choice for setting a grimdark soulslike game at first. But I bet it makes a lot more sense after reading the 1880's Italian original.

    It's a weird book, and a bit of an old fashioned translation. It has been fun to explain what some of the stuff in the book is (like a primer) to a child of the 21st century lol. There are parts that are questionable, but compared to the shit kids can be exposed to on YouTube it's decent (and at least has some sense of trying to teach kids some basic, but dated morals). Honestly worth a read if you like the game, if only to have the soypoint-2 moments.

    I haven't watched the Disney films (I've heard the original one is solid), but the recent Guillermo del Toro movie is pretty great. The del Toro movie seems to embrace that kids are a little rebellious and chaotic (as a good thing) more than the original book. It's also set in fascist Italy, and Pinocchio sings a poop fart song about no-fash to his face.

    I do like scifi Pinocchio as a concept (like how it's lightly the inspiration for Astro Boy).
