And among tech oligarchs, Bezos is all too typical. Peter Thiel, for one, once revealed that his three best ideas for achieving true freedom are “cyberspace”, “outerspace” and “seasteading” (the idea of building new countries on floating oil rigs). In other words, this man, whose enormous wealth affords him access to the most spectacular settings our planet has to offer, actually believes these three cold, dead places are superior to the Earth we have, verdant and alive.

Something similar seems amiss with Elon Musk, a man who seems to look up at the wonders of the night sky and see only opportunities to fill that inky unknown with his own space junk. The venerable novelist Joyce Carol Oates highlighted these apparent limits in the fall of 2025 when she roasted him ruthlessly on his own platform, X.

“So curious,” she wrote, “that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciates – scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend’s or relative’s accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated, uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter [X] may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the ‘most wealthy person in the world.’”

The observation clearly got under the tech baron’s notoriously thin skin: he called her “a lazy liar” and began posting approvingly about various movies to prove Oates wrong.

If you can't sustain yourself on a planet made to sustain you then any idea is dead on arrival anyways.

Except the planet wasn’t “made” to sustain us.

We developed to be able to sustain ourselves on the other things that developed to sustain themselves on this planet.

You want to go on a technicality? Life is an abomination only capable of being created in specific conditions. You and everything on this planet is an abomination.

I think it's hilarious that the only place misanthropy can exist is in human minds.

Idk if any of these animals could think about like or dislike they would hate us. Its probably a universal truth that outside the human bias its just one big piece of shit splintered into 8.3 billion shit stains.

Life is an abomination only capable of being created in specific conditions.

"Abomination" is your reaction to the phenomenon.

One could just as easily say, "Life is a miracle only capable of being created in specific conditions."

But I prefer to avoid demonizing or glorifying natural phenomena. Life is a result of natural processes.

So natural thats why there are so many planets full of life. Its a lucky coincidence based on very specific set conditions. You’re more likely to get hit by a lightning bolt than you are to get a natural sequence that leads to life. It’s a sliver of a fraction. Abomination isnt always negative just your bias human perspective leads to it being negative.

We have a very limited sample size.

Abomination isnt always negative just your bias human perspective leads to it being negative.

You might want to check the definition of "abomination".

No, but I do hate this homo/sapiocentric view many have, that this planet was “made for us”, establishing a weird ownership mentality, presuming that humans own everything out there, when in reality we’re just short term tenants on this world. Some humility, accepting that humans are just a small, almost insignificant gear in this big machine, would go incredibly far.

Well we are the biggest parasites on the planet so whether you like it or not we made it for us.

So you gave up on fixing that and embraced the harmful, selfish narrative instead?

    We can do better.

Im sorry but, the billionaires dont want that type of life for you and me. Almost like you and everyone that thinks they can change it are living a dream. The world works on money. You want evidence? Climate change is bad guess what? A.I companies dont give a shit about it theyre so obsessed theyre willing to fuel the climate disaster even further.

Im sorry but, the billionaires dont want that type of life for you and me.

    I'm aware of that.

Almost like you and everyone that thinks they can change it are living a dream.

Hypothetically, we can. Whether we will remains to be seen. But you complying in advance helps nobody.

    The world works on money.

And we should change that, or at ensure that everybody has enough and no one can hoard too much.

You want evidence? Climate change is bad guess what? A.I companies dont give a shit about it theyre so obsessed theyre willing to fuel the climate disaster even further.

I'm aware, they're deliberately slaughtering us. We need more people to think critically. Sacrificing our own existence for money is incredibly stupid.

Given that neither of us know the future, what if I am wrong? Then we all die after fighting our hardest.

And what if you're wrong? Then we manage to fix our broken systems and stabilize instead of going extinct. But in that scenario, the more people dragging their feet instead of helping, the more people die.

If you value life at all, don't give up. If you don't value life, keep it to yourself.

Man you act like this isn’t late stage capitalism. This was engineered to be like this. Aristocrats were on board with capitalism a long long time ago. Not once in our history has change with these problems been bloodless. You want real change with the biggest pussies in all of history? Contempt to be raised like cattle not knowing everything is engineered. Ever wonder why the minimum wage is always less than livable wages in most capitalist enthusiast countries?

Man you act like this isn’t late stage capitalism.

You act like there's nothing worth trying.

This was engineered to be like this.

Yeah, and we should make more people aware of that.

Aristocrats were on board with capitalism a long long time ago. Not once in our history has change with these problems been bloodless. You want real change with the biggest pussies in all of history?

Did I say it would be bloodless? That's the goal, but if we have to kill aggressors to save lives, we should.

Contempt to be raised like cattle not knowing everything is engineered. Ever wonder why the minimum wage is always less than livable wages in most capitalist enthusiast countries?

These are all reasons we should fight back even harder instead of rolling over for them.

Again. If you don't value life, keep it to yourself.
