Intimacy coordinators fall into two groups. It can be a bullshit job role in large productions with experienced actors, but they can be useful for indie productions and stuff involving inexperienced actors or young people.
The job is to coordinate scenes with physical contact and establish consent, so nobody gets too uncomfortable. That might include someone slapping another person for real, or a scene with sexual overtones, or pretty much anywhere in between.
