Donald Trump pledged Wednesday to send every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections, an extraordinary gambit to reverse his party’s sagging fortunes in November.

The dubious promise would likely cost more than $1 trillion and require congressional approval, and would further exacerbate the country’s nearly $1.8 trillion annual budget deficit and concerns about inflation.

$5.50 diesel vs the $3.75 high of the Biden years is $8,750 $875 a year extra in diesel for someone getting average 20mpg and driving 10,000 miles a year (both those are generous figures for coal rolling brodozer owners).

Edit: thanks I was a little tired when I divided the 10,000 in my head!

Now I need to look up real mileage and real driving distances too, it’s probably closer to 12k miles a year on average, but the real costs from expensive fuel are obviously the food production costs, and the delivery of everything.
