I appreciate you sharing this, because I feel somewhat similarly. So much training for such flighty, specialized "skills" just for it all to change on a near-constant basis (sometimes by design...).

Not saying all white collar/desk positions are pointless, but it's pretty easy to see just how much our culture and school systems divert many people into relying at best on a livelihood that might be utterly changed or deleted in the span of a decade, or at worst a livelihood they can control you through.

'Swhy I'm doing a mid-life career change and learning carpentry. Far as I know AI can't build houses yet, and in the worst case scenario of society collapsing I can at least build shit for people in exchange for food.

If the techno-feudalist/anarcho-capitalist society the fascist tech bro fucks want comes to pass, they can either jail me or kill me (likely), but the one thing they can't do is rob me of the skills I can use to help my community and keep myself alive. In times like these, it's enough to keep going.
