I mean before the fall. There was 43 years of time to build a single road bridge between 1948 and 1991. It seems incredibly odd that they did not given how much military cooperation and technology transfers occurred.

    I guess any people or trade traveling from most of Russia/USSR would arrive via train since basically nobody lives in the far East of Russia relative to the West. I get why there wasn't a huge need for it, but it seems like you would want to have one or two road bridge connections with your military ally.
