It even starts with that pretentious ambiance emblematic of the times (opinion). I don't like it. It may not just be a remaster, but we're getting the same temples that need to be put to rest and given new fundamental themes within them (fact).

The graphics look goofy yeah but I don't know how Nintendo would have handled this. They're kind of stuck trying to update something people regard as the greatest single game ever made. If they go too far in making it modern, they upset the purists. If they make it too close to the original, then it looks uncanny and raises questions like why make a remake at all.

Personally I don't like having realistic textures mixed together with cartoony anatomy. Characters in ocarina of time looked cartoony and jaggy because of the N64 limitations and that was part of the charm. This just looks like uncanny unsettling AI upscaling. I'm in favor of remakes but they gotta do their own thing too. This reminds me of the Mgs3 remake, how none of the story or dialogue was touched.

Maybe I'm also getting kind of old because I think the N64 Zeldas are perfectly playable games as they are. They're old and clunky sometimes, but they're playable games. They don't rely upon cryptic guessing like even older NES Zeldas, they don't rely upon understanding gaming conventions of the time. You can just play them and they're fine games. Just load up an emulator with some resolution upscaling and there you go.

Nope. I actually had this argument with a good friend today (who is excited for this remake) who has never played OoT but knows I've played nearly every Zelda except the CD-i ones.

Me: "You have a Switch Online subscription, why haven't you just played the N64 version?? It's perfectly fine now that it got the updates that fixed the fog & whatnot. A little clunky because the switch joycon controls but you can just use a pro controller and have a decent experience"

Him: "It doesn't even hit 30fps"

Me: "Why does it need to hit 30fps?? The N64 version was capped at 20 and looks & runs perfectly fine at 20fps."

Him: "It should be at least 30. I'm hoping this one will be 60"

Me: "You've lost your damn mind no Zelda game NEEDS 60fps. 30fps is perfectly fine even for BOTW or TOTK"

    Him: "Nuh uh"

Point him to Ship of Harkinian (the PC port of OoT, OoT Master Quest and Majora's Mask). It has literally all the quality of life features one can possibly imagine (and then some), including higher fps.
