Is space force a real thing with real people working there? I just assumed it was a tax fraud thing.

It has always been, but it was just part of the Air Force. Trump insisted on splitting it because it sounds cooler. But the only real reason to do it is to ensure the budget doesn't prioritize air projects over space projects.

They deal a lot with satellites. There's 10k+ US satellites in orbit, and a ton of non-US ones as well. It's legit, and it makes sense to branch off a bit.

Yeah, I'm sure that's an unfortunate truth, but I also don't know that NASA should be getting into what will undoubtedly be more militaristic operations in space, because the world sucks, so why not make space suck too. And NASA doesn't suck.

Yeah, that's NASA's role, and they've done it great for decades. The only reason to create a Space Force over NASA is if you want to militarize space, which we should avoid at all costs.

THAT'S why we don't need a Space Force.
