Fun fact! Arrival used On the Nature of Daylight by Max Richter to such powerful effect that it cost them a shot at the Oscar for Best Original Score. The Academy determined that this non-original-to-the-film piece of music had too much of an emotional impact and would cloud judgement of the actual original score, so the film wasn’t nominated in the category.

(That song is so beautiful. It gets used all the time in media because it so perfectly encompasses the feeling of hope in the face of despair. It was one of the first songs I listened to after the 2024 US election to try to make myself less catatonic.)
