This is good news wTF is with the "feared"? permalink fedilink source hideshow 8 child comments replies: [–] Wfh@lemmy.zip 13 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 child) Phrasing sucks. I think it means "consumers refuse to buy second-hand EVs because they fear that batteries would lose a shitton of capacity. Turns out, they're fine. The batteries, we mean." Which is both good news (yay for good capacity on second-hand cars) and bad news (because EVs depreciate super fast and I'm counting on it to afford one, and may not depreciate as much anymore). permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 2 days ago (1 child) The bigger killer of lithium EV batteries is age. Not miles they've gone. LifePO4 last longest aft what's commonly available, but the EV cells will go bad after 12 to 20 years no matter if the cars gone 10,000 miles or 300,000 miles. The batteries chemistry simply isn't stable for long term beyond that. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 child) yeah there's never anything good enough to replace good ol fossil fuels huh? this guy is a shill for exxon. every argument is bad faith, poorly reasoned or outright lies. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 1 point 1 day ago (1 child) Oh please. Look at my first post, dumbass. I just said not to buy an older used EV, and if you do, get one with LifePO4 batteries. You're just pissed because you don't know anything and you're in here trying to argue something you know nothing about. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago sure thing elmer fud permalink fedilink source parent [–] Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 5 days ago (1 child) I think the manufacturers and car salesmen fear it.
