So a new guy shows up to one of our public meetings yesterday, after maybe 20 minutes calls someone who he disagrees with a "zog bot"

I tell him not to call people that, bc "zog" originates in neo-nazism and anti-jewish conspiracy theories, say we can talk more after the meeting if need be

He slams his fists on the table and yells "ok zog bot" throws papers on the ground and storms out yelling "no god damn free speech! Zogs got em, zogs got em!"

It feels like americans especially are primed to default to antisemitism when they don't have the tools to navigate the difference between judaism and zionism. Like the background radiation of pop culture has a lot of antisemitic tropes that young people might latch on to. Not making excuses for the shithead, but I get why.

    I agree if only because Americans had virtually zero concept of antisemitism 10 years ago and it was only until Israel truly accelerated things that this has reared its ugly head, so let’s not overstate things. Blame the Europeans for this weird shit

    Nazi sentiment during this time was centered around hatred against other groupsminorities, it wasn’t necessarily Jewish centric in nature. Vast majority of people who were victims of violence during Charlottesville were black.

    Okay, I was on 4chan ten years ago, and I'm pretty confident the anti-Black racism also featured antisemitic "great replacement" conspiracies. That's literally what the "Jews will not replace us" sign meant at Charlottesville.
