Genuine question: how the hell does this keep happening? Don't they have any quality control, any testing, competent management, quality engineers, years of experience, or anything at all?

    They fired their QA department in 2015 relying on telemetry of users to diagnose issues. Then last year they boasted a third of all their code is AI generated. You don’t have millions of lines of code over 2+ decades and have a high quality standard of a third of that was generated in 2 years.

    I wager the "third of code is AI generated" was perhaps a twist of the truth to advertise for AI in general.

    That said, an OS on AI generated code is not a good thing, and it shows regardless of what % is actually AI generated.

    Well now Idk about that...it's assumedly trained on the entire Microsoft archive of code. Probably also trained on everything in GitHub, too.

    I wouldn't doubt an LLM's ability to churn out lots of lines of code and add-on half the original LOC's in random Windows Crap.

    Also, have you seen Windows 11? Damn near unrecognizable from Windows 10 20H2, let alone 1507. And a lot of that is absolute crap updates like hiding the original legacy tools and putting in worthless apps that look nice but can't do half the crap that they could before (looking at you, ncpa.cpl)...but at least the original tools are just "hidden", not removed. Yet.

    I will say, I do like PowerShell lately. Probably more than bash (as in, all other things equal, I can either turn on a Windows PC to write a shell script, or a Linux PC to write a shell script, to do the same thing...the only reason I'd prefer bash would be because I wouldn't have to use Windows...). Not as much as Python, but that's kinda apples/oranges.
