Well folks, I found an IRL cat hater!

Genuinely took me off guard when she said that.

She also snarled in disgust when I showed her a picture of one of the sweet heart strays in my neighborhood.

.....Probably coming off as a fake post, but no, I'm being serious!

They're relatively common, it's sort of like the people who are really proud about telling others that they aren't good at math, always comes across as performative.

I was bad at math in school until my final math class. My grades went from 50s to 90s cause the teacher explained the scientific applications of the math so i didnt feel like I was doing math for the sake of math. Also, he was pals with my gf at the time's uncle who was a math major dropout in his late 20s who i was living with. The uncle made his money playing poker and my teacher met him there and so my math teacher and I would occasionally party together on weekends. Between the 2 of em within a six month span math clicked. Im just bad at mental arithmetic and so much shit was focused on that. I can turn a practical issue into algebra no problem in my head tho, some functions make sense to me and im glad I learned em before getting a modular synth. I do food costing at work now cause my boss sucks at math. There is a formula and it turns out its the exact same as the one I came up wirh myself. I'm pretty good at calculating in my head now as well. Im school they bombarded us with a lot of abstract methods of imagining a math problem. I just kinds eventually memorized the multiplication table and work my way from the closest number I already know the answer for. You can reverse engineer multiplication for division and then addition and subtraction csn be done via breaking down the multiples of 10 and counting on your fingers. I remember in elementary school they tried to teach us math with little plastic coins that were yellow on one side snd red on the other and red side meant it was worth 10 and yellow meant it was worth 1 or vice versa and we had to fucking draw these stupid coing as filled in or wmpty xircles while proving our work. Sent my parents insane when they tried to help with my math homework. They knew the answers ans then had to spend hours trying to make sense of the weird methodology we had to show. However I always absolutely crushed the humanities.
