The Treaty of Fort Jackson (also known as the Treaty with the Creeks) was signed on this day in 1814 at Fort Jackson in Alabama. The treaty was agreed upon in the aftermath of the defeat of Red Stick (Upper Creek) resistance by U.S. forces at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.
The treaty was the "largest single Indian cession of southern American land", according to historian Michael Rogin - around 23 million acres in Alabama and Georgia. The U.S. forces won with the battle with the help of allied Cherokee and Lower Creek forces friendly to the American side.
The terms of various treaties with the Creek nation would go on to be consistently violated by Americans colonizing the south.
You replied under my thread and I’m sorry your (our) perspectives were dismissed like that.
I deleted my original comment about servers because it’s not helpful to propagate generalizations and I’m always trying to be a better person but unfortunately, other people on this site will never self reflect because they fit into the site’s demographic.
I honestly have shit experience with servers 75% of the time. I AM literally expected to hold their hand and placate them and be understanding of their own internal biases. I still pay >15-20% pretty much every single time. Through various times of my life, I’ve made less than the server serving me. But I’m not supposed to complain about their shit service, I’m supposed to pay through gritted teeth for being treated less than. And then you have to go online to hear someone use woke language by calling you a labor aristocrat.
It would be awesome if I had less of a conscience about this so I could just hit that 0% and live guilt free. But no, I see myself as Vladimir Lenin, a world historical figure I guess.
