[–] MirrorGiraffe@piefed.social 30 points 2 days ago (4 children) My 10 year old had started beating me at Chess, been practicing on Duolingo. It feels weird but this was the end goal, right? Having them surpass you and all. But yeah didn't expect it to happen already. permalink fedilink source hideshow 8 child comments replies: [–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 15 points 2 days ago* (1 child) Taught my boy to play connect 4. Had to start paying attention to by the time he was 7, by now (10) he is a challenge to beat, often just draw. I have to try to win chess now also. It is great. My 11yo nephew is a challenge to beat in chess, I think I'll probably not win next time we play. My 7yo can read music, I can't.... It is the way of the world. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] foggy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago Im certain 12 year old me would smoke 40 year old me in chess. permalink fedilink source parent [–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago The day my son surpassed me in Rocket League, I knew I'd passed my prime. permalink fedilink source parent [–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 day ago I was a lot better at chess as a 13 year old than I am as a 43 year old. Your mind runs way better when young. I used to be able to think so many more moves ahead than I can, now. permalink fedilink source parent [–] JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago I had a conversation with my partner recently where we agreed “if you’re kid isn’t smarter than you by the time their 15, you’ve fucked up” 15 is a bit exaggerated obviously, but before they leave your home, they should know everything you know + everything else they’ve learned permalink fedilink source parent
