I learned recently the term teetotaler comes from a report about people's total alcohol consumption per year

The way the non drinkers were recorded on the report to emphasize that they claimed they didnt drink at all was something like "the T Total of alcohol consumption was zero"

If you said it out loud itd be like "the capital T total of alcohol consumption was zero"
