You can already buy such kits. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] cynar@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children) More a replacement brain for an EV. Compared to an ICE there is far less to manage in a hyper time critical manner. It's a lot more viable to design a drop in replacement. Particularly if the battery bank already has its own monitoring, that just reports upwards. You would end up with a modern EV, with many of the desired features. However, the manufacturer would no longer be able to reach in and extract data, either remotely, at a mechanic, or after an accident. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Tja@programming.dev 1 point 3 weeks ago You can also have that. The ice replacement kits bring everything, and very often use tesla or leaf batteries. If you already have a Tesla battery in your tesla, that much you can save. You lose all the fancy features, remote app management, sentry, etc, but that might be a pro for you... permalink fedilink source parent [–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 point 3 weeks ago Just unplug the sharkfin, or cover it with foil tape. permalink fedilink source parent
