Most history lessons were really bad - at least the one I had. They fed us this boring overview while leaving out the interesting stuff.

Just think about current events: corruption, backstabbing, ethnic cleansing, foreign powers influencing elections, removing heads of state...

I don't think the past was any less of a mess. We just got the cleaned-up and dumbed-down version. Boring and probably done to protect the kids from knowing how f'ed up the world really is.

Real history could be fun.
