Depends on your definition of being dead.
Is he brain dead? Maybe
Is he on life support where blood is being pumped through his corpse and a nurse comes in to turn him over twice a day to prevent infection from bedsores? Probably
Is he ever returning to the Senate? No.
I see a bit of a silver lining to him rotting in a hospital so the seat can't be filled. Sure, the Kentucky governor could replace him with a Democrat, but Dems still don't have the votes to do anything meaningful, and it might just prop up some awful centrist, or reflect badly on the governor if he selected a lame replacement. Some people say "he should make Thomas Massie senator" but that guy voted with Republicans the vast majority of the time, except for the Epstein investigation and the Iran war. Otherwise that guy is just like the rest of them catering to billionaires and corporations.
I used to think McConnell would be declared dead or leaving office on August 4 but I see benefits to him being absent and occupying the seat without being able to participate and not allowing anyone to step in to aid in the downfall of the US.
I've never bought the idea that he was actually biologically dead or in a vegetative state, because that would be so difficult cover up. I even kind of believe that the proof-of-life photo is real (but likely doctored to make him look less ghastly).
But anyone who's gone through the dying process with an elderly relative knows what's going on. At best he'll linger on for a few months, and might even make a public appearance if he has a good day. And then he will die in September or October or something, to no-one's surprise.
I think this is the most reasonable and rational position to actually believe. For fun I am choosing to believe he's just lungs and a brain in a suit like the robocop remake
No, he couldn't. The KY legislature passed the "fuck Andy Beshear in particular" act in 2023, requiring the seat to remain vacant until a special election.
IIRC Beshear questioned if that act is legal and is willing to do it anyway and let a court decide if needed.
Yeah, but do you honestly think that any court with jurisdiction in KY would rule in his favor?
I wouldn't blindly rule it one way or the other
they don't have the anything to do anything meaningful. they'll go to a mass grave with their "you lie" paddles in the air and their other hands sewn to eachother's backs. that's what civilized people do.
This person’s already cushioning the clear abdication of agency by the dems with their first line ‘Is Mitch brain dead: Maybe’.
Why not start off with ‘is Mitch dead dead?’? Like they’re just taking the GOP narrative at face value. That’s their operating point. The only people brain dead here are the democrats.
Imagine them doing the Warhammer 40k Golden Throne treatment to fucking Mitch McConnell.
