there's a kind of file system that works by tagging. the BeOS guys invented it, and there are FUSE versions. with a tag-based file system linked to your music storage you can basically create a directory called "funk" and it will automatically fill with every file that has that tag. or you can create like "1970s/upbeat" and you'll get every upbeat track from the 70's in that directory, while still having the files reachable from "funk". there are even specific ones for id3-tags.
