America fucked them over and used all their wealth to become one of the best places to live. If anything it's kind of their birth right.

for a long time america has been portrayed as the shining beacon of freedom, democracy, and opportunity. it was also a country where some amount of (white) people working one job per family got to live comfortably for a while. wouldn't surprise me if despite all the horrors of imperialism some people still think american life is good.

People go where resources are concentrated / hoarded. It makes sense to go to where the fruits of your exploited labor ended up.
