I agree that the massacre of the suitors was a little bit long-winded. But I think it had to be in order to give Tom Holland his moment of triumph and in order to make it believable that Odysseus might actually die.

I also loved that he didn't need to kill them all, since they began to kneel before him.

I also saw it as this is the tale that is being told through the ages. People saying he took down 20 men sounds more impressive than 5.
