It's literally explained in the article.

I did a bit of googling since making that comment, apparently it is in the American south.

I really hate how fascists keep stealing symbols. I believe they've been doing it from their inception. I believe I read a while ago that even a variant of the Celtic cross had also been used as a hate symbol as well.

Personally my mentality is "don't let them have it". If fascists use a symbol, in many cases we should continue using it so their attempt at hijacking it fails.

Although I still wouldn't really associate the Jerusalem cross with the UK, moreso just generally a symbol of historic/traditional Christianity

I do agree with claiming symbols. Although, I think context matters a lot. A swastika on a Buddhist statue is great. A swastika on a skin-head's forehead sends a different message. In the same way, I think this symbol in black on the British flag could be misinterpreted. I think moving it off the flag was the best option for everyone.

Ehhh I would be kind of wary about a black cross like that on the British flag, do you have any screenshots?

My church has the Jerusalem cross incorporated in it's bookplate, with symbols and writings related to the history of The Church Catholick, so usually I'd associate it with that.

The British flag is already a Christian symbol, it doesn't need an extra cross

Ah yeah that looks well dodgy so it does

I haven't really seen a cross like that before, it's lacking the four evangelist crosses of the Jerusalem cross
