Realistically, I think we'll just have a compliant regime here that does what the US tells it to. The only real path to having genuine sovereignty would be to use China as a counterbalance to the US, and to start building out domestic industry to become more self sufficient. And I'm doubtful either of these things will happen. While Carney is making some overtures towards China right now, I suspect it's really just a play to get the US to back down. He wants nothing more than to stick his tongue up Trump's ass as far as it'll go.
