Count Binface is the only candidate to declare he will take on Mr Farage in Clacton so far.

Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, the Greens and Restore Britain have all said they will not field candidates in the by-election.

To anyone outside of the UK.

Public School is what you would call a Private School in the US. It's "Public" in that anyone with enough money can go.

A "Public School" in Britain is "public" in the same sense that the Ritz Hotel is "public" - if you can pay the £400/night you can use it.

When I lived in Britain I always felt that calling "public school" what most of the world calls "private school" was an excellent illustration of how at least the English culture was the most hypocrite in Europe (especially from the middle class upwards).

I think it was in relation to having private tutors.

The rich had a private education, with a few years at "public school" to make contacts and learn to socialise with their peers.

    It predated universal education systems.

Oh so it was like go out in public school. Kind of makes sense that words would change over time, also it's not much of a stretch to think that the USA would create universal education and then call it public schools as a flex

    State school.

(Or you might hear "comprehensives", but they're just a subset of the state school system.)

    ETA:

State school, or just school: what almost everyone goes to

    Private school: fee-paying non-state schools

Public school: prestigious high fee-paying non-state secondary schools. "Public school" is the Ivy League of private schools, essentially.
