Slop posts go in c/slop. Don't post low-hanging fruit here.
This is so absolutely spot on. Also
I fucking hate it here. I'm embarrassed to call this fucking place my home and these fucking people my fellows. I know I should work organizing and agitating and propagating, but I have absolutely zero hope on anyone here. It seems to me that even those who see the problems with capitalism will instinctively denounce communism and default to some stupid fucking idealist/anarchist stance that will never lead to anything changing. I'd rather just move to China with my partner, but we don't have money like that, and neither of us speak mandarin, and neither of us have any reason for anyone in China to employ us so I guess we'll just wait for the state to turn even more fascist and then try seeking asylum once the repressions really start ramping up or something.
There was a ridiculous brand new anticommunist slop article on Yle today about a Polish dude who has moved here and about his amazement on how "Finnish people listened to the propaganda". Which means this anecdotal anticommunist being appaled the country was even slightly positive about the Soviet Union back in the day. This is what our national news is focusing on.
And the comment section on it, oh my god! The boomers debate lording on it about all the basic unserious talking points made me want to start daydrinking mid workday.
Sink this ship into the Baltic already, we have no redeeming qualities.
Ooof, I also occasionally make the mistake of reading the Yle comments and usually it ruins the rest of my day with similar reactions, ie. I either wanna get drunk or kill myself or both. Very Finnish of me now that I think about it.
A while back I left a comment on some article that they allowed commenting on. The comment was anti-government, anti-capitalist and possibly anti-NATO as well, so obviously it got flagged automatically. The bot claimed in an email the regular stuff how it was either hurtful or something that was already stated in said comments, but when I requested a contact with a human administrator they told me the actual reason was "Negative effects on civic discourse and voting", and then offered no additional elaboration when I raised some hell on this. Shortly after they turned off this option, and instead nowadays you'd have to make a complaint to the Helsinki district court or whatever for individual comment moderation practices which is just chef's kiss.
Fully propagandized population of apathetic, miserable, xenophobic drunks. Please mr. Putin, nuke us all. You'd help humanity. (/s for clarity, unless i'm not joking)
Omg incredible. I do know or have heard the comment section moderation at least on Yle is somehow basic finns related.
Kudos to you for bothering to try. I typically try to avoid this stuff as much as I can, but the polish guy article having the comment section open (they are ever so selective on what is open and what isn't) and I fell for the reaction. Which of course is the point.
I don't really even bother nowadays, especially not in Yle news. Occasionally I might try, but usually they just don't publish my comments even if I'm not flaming or verbally assaulting Rydman or anything.
If I'm reading the writing on the walls correctly and we (as Euros) will be diving head first into fascism soon then these are the days when local communists like me should start organizing and arming an actual vanguard party (I don't trust the local communist party with its European Left -association, nor do I know if the other one "Kommunistinen Työväenpuolue" has a nationwide reach), but I'm already a burnt-out, nearly disabled, broken husk of a person. I lack the strength.
