Canada seems like it tried to imitate American wokeness (as it imitates American everything), but wokeness didn't really fit Canadian society as well (because it has no large permanent-underclass minority), so it mutated into something very toxic and bizarre.

Sick of this take. Canada and the US share a common culture. Canadians don't "import" US ideas anymore than say, lowa "imports" conservatism from New York or whatever. Canada has a right and a left just like every other place. Canadian leftists come to their beliefs sincerely.

USA-Canada, Germany-Austria, and probably other examples like Norway-Sweden, Finland-Estonia, Netherlands-Belgium A, France-Belgium B, Czechia-Slovakia, 75% of former Yugoslavia, all call themselves "separate countries" but they are much more similar to each other than say two neighbouring states/provinces in India or China are

TBH, Finland and Estonia are pretty different due to wildly different history, so Estonia is more similar to neighbouring Latvia. And also Yugoslavia-Bulgaria and Russia-Ukraine-Belarus should be added.

still, finland is surely much more similar to estonia than karnataka is to maharashtra or guangdong is to hunan
Latvia and Lithuania are also surprisingly different in many ways.
