I can vouch for the dnd movie hard, I went in because my dad made me, and I was ready for it to be garbage. My only real complaint is druid wild stape doesn't work like that RAW. It really was quite excellent.
There's definitely room for Rule of Cool. I always allow Druids to do magical beasts, with the caveat of "I can say no if shenanigans".
Yeah I feel that, I didn't want to push the rules at the time but I wanted to run a druid with a much bigger emphasis on wild shape, and the movie was pretty close to what I wanted. I'm mainly jealous.
