This article only makes me more convinced that "AI" has just replaced the term "computer program" in general use.
it's like how in the 10s everything suddenly became an "app"
I work in education. A lot students just use the word "AI" to mean anything a computer does thats the least bit automated
That's kinda been the definition for AI in "gamer" talk for decades. Basically replacing the word "algorithm"
I point this out to students too, when they insist "AI" is new. Really socratically drilling in on defitions with them lol
It's a specific type of a program that can make stochastic decisions. Ultimately AI is just a form of automation, and it's very useful for many real world applications where a system has to make decisions based on messy data.
