You can play them on Pokémon Stadium on Nintendo 64 which has special hardware to insert the Game Boy modules. You move more slowly, but you still get to where you need to go fairly quickly. Even the battles feel fast because the animations and text tend to be quicker. Grinding sucks though. Goldenrod City (the city with the 3rd gym badge) has a bike shop off the beaten path where the owner lends you a bike to advertise for his shop then calls you after you ride it enough to say you can keep it.
