Frankly, the formulation of Roman Christianity seemed to just be a test of what ridiculous contradictions in terms they could get people to say they believed, abdicating their reason as an indication of their obedience to authority.

    It's a lot of stuff that was done to get various powerful sects in alignment and then it stuck for the next forever years. Like, the ex cathedra ability of the Pope to proclaim an inviolable infallible supreme truth from God is only from 1870.
