[–] DekkerNSFW@lemmy.fmhy.ml 12 points 3 years ago (3 children) Upvotes and downvotes, sure, but actual karma that's tracked per account, no. I don't think that's planned either, but I could be mistaken. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] jugalator@lemmy.world 9 points 3 years ago (1 child) That would be very nice if true. Let's not have karma. I've never missed it and forgot it was even a thing. I only see downsides overshadowing any upsides ("fun to know"?) with it. Even "trusted account" uses don't work because karma promotes botting. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Nalivai@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 years ago I liked karma per post, for some reason "hey, 100 people agreed with what I said" was giving me warm feelings sometimes. I don't think it's something to be particularly proud of, but still permalink fedilink source parent [–] spiderkle@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 years ago (2 children) Good to know, it's not something that's planned but it will be requested to death. Let's hope some devs are users themselves and aren't afraid to iterate. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] rclkrtrzckr@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 years ago (2 children) Who needs Karma? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Beliriel@lemmy.world 4 points 3 years ago (2 children) Influencers permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] ki77erb@lemmy.world 6 points 3 years ago Just another word for attention whore. permalink fedilink source parent [–] 0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works 1 point 3 years ago (1 child) What in the AF is an influencer anyway... All the people I know that are influencers of some sort are basically no good in life at anything else. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] rclkrtrzckr@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 years ago My words. permalink fedilink source parent [–] spiderkle@lemmy.ca 1 point 3 years ago Why, are you selling it? permalink fedilink source parent [–] veroxii@lemmy.world 1 point 3 years ago (1 child) I mean any UI app can calculate it for you. It already lists all your posts and comments... Just add up the numbers. It doesn't need to be implemented in the Lemmy backend at all. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] 0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works 1 point 3 years ago Thunder shows it in your profile, but it scrapes it from the instance, there is no such option in the web UI. permalink fedilink source parent [–] just_change_it@lemmy.world 0 points 3 years ago (2 children) People really love their fake internet points. Tracking per-server would be trivial. Gamification works to encourage engagement as has been proven time and time again. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] rbhfd@lemmy.world 2 points 3 years ago It's also great to create karma-whores and serial reposters, while discouraging discussion which leads to echo chambers. Engagement is great, but I prefer quality over quantity. permalink fedilink source parent [–] ElectricCattleman@lemmy.world 1 point 3 years ago* But what is the goal? Gamification does work if your goal is quantity over quality, which it is for many site owners who want big numbers and to push ads. But for Lemmy, the only goal is for people to have a place to post links, comment, and build communities. People shouldn't post if they don't have something meaningful to contribute. I'm not necessarily against showing stats for users, but we don't have corporate goals like "engagement". permalink fedilink source parent
