There's some teams that recruit on height alone and worry about teaching skills later. The fact that he wasn't even sniffed at by a college coach somewhere is pretty telling. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] manxu@piefed.social 7 points 6 months ago For all we know, every single athletic program in the USA tried to get this one. But can you imagine even one of the Trump family doing actual work? No, thanks, coach! permalink fedilink source parent [–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 child) Not really. You need to have athletic grace. I've got a childhood friend that tall and while he had some attempts to get him on the high school team he just obviously lacked the kinesthetic ability to play sports at even a varsity level. None of the colleges he attended even asked. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] LincolnsDogFido@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 months ago* Sounds like your childhood friend had a lot in common with Barron, Bono, and Mr. Hankey. /s permalink fedilink source parent [–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 0 points 6 months ago Well I heard he had autism, and his mother seems pretty overprotective. So perhaps he is not qualified d/t mental illness. I mean, we don't know if this kid is stimming out when presented with new experiences. He may not be banging his head against a wall but there may be other issues. Plus, his affinity for people like the brothers Tate (rapist advocates and human trafficking criminals) might just disqualify him d/t character and judgement. What do they say? apples fall from the tree. permalink fedilink source parent
