when talking about reddit atheists we're mostly talking about movement atheists, not simple nonbelievers. there's little reason to form communities around nonbelief when religious doctrine isn't dominating society and eroding civil rights.
Now, you could of course make the argument that some of this shit is inspired by (or even directly "imported" from) the US and has its roots in US evangelicalism, and I'd agree with that to some degree, but the point is that religion isn't a prerequisite for these things to take hold.
it's not, but to the extent that reddit atheists reproduced the racism, misogyny, and white supremacy of their originating cultures they were simply failing to be better than the christofascists, and in the context of a major ameircan website should have been preferable to the god botherers.
