thats the full story, because that has always been the goal - in the end western leftist dont want to abolish capitalism or imperialism, they want feel good moments and better "products in the marketplace of ideas". Consumers not communists.

Socialist is when you buy my t-shirt with Che Guevara on it and the more you buy the more socialism it is and if you buy my entire stock and bankrupt yourself in the process that's communism.
