Whenever I encounter a problem in my life, I toss a molotov cocktail. That immediately turns into a different problem.

This is the mathematician's approach. When faced with a novel problem seek to reduce it to a known problem, and solve that. This assumes you know how to solve the problem of everything being on fire.
