Seems like a pretty unnecessary abbreviation to me permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] eezeebee@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 year ago (1 child) For those people you want to know that you care enough about them to wish a good morning, but not enough to type out the full words permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 child) That's what bugs me about that one. Saying "good morning" or "good evening" or whatever is a salutation. It's not conveying any real information, it's just ritual politeness. I'm not a big fan of ritual politeness. But, if you're going to do it, don't half-ass it. To me, it's impolite and insincere to half-ass or abbreviate a greeting. I feel the same way about "GG" and "TX" for thanks. Do it right, or don't do it at all. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 1 point 1 year ago (1 child) ah, but ggez is classic! permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] merc@sh.itjust.works 1 point 1 year ago "ggez" is fine because you're taunting, it's meant to be rude. If you're trying to be polite but say "gg" it reads about the same, that you don't care enough to actually type out a few extra characters. permalink fedilink source parent [–] tetris11@feddit.uk 4 points 1 year ago (1 child) I keep getting "Bon Jour"s from my maman permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago* (1 child) Here, have a Bon Jovi permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] tetris11@feddit.uk 1 point 1 year ago Ohhh you're halfway there! There's reasons for why people use it ranging from it being part of your speech identity, to preferring the flow to it, to it taking less space, and so on A lot of it is just vibes based permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 point 1 year ago I get it.
