Looks like we upset a few too many kkkanada residents over at lemmy.ca. I didn't see a post about this on here, so I thought I'd go ahead and make one.

2 of 4 reasons why are basically just PPB lol, and a third is for calling for executions of landlords mao-aggro-shining

In a way, it's depressing that it's not "just Reddit" that was top-down silencing any narratives that challenge the mainstream consensus. It's happening now in a more distributed fashion where smaller admins of instances decide that "we don't need any different viewpoints" and defederate

That's how Reddit used to operate on a sub-by-sub basis. People would get banned from subs they'd never even visited, because the admins were angry at them posting in associated subs.

The petty feudal mod atmosphere trickled up to the administration over time, and eventually the admins just adopted a Mods But Sitewide approach to governance.

Admittedly, this was after numerous subs began to actively and deliberately fuck with the money.

But... what do you even want? Redditors gonna Redditor. Even Hexbear went through a period of arbitrarily banning people over petty ego driven shit some years back.

Can we at hexbear really be mad at an instance blocking us when we are literally whitelisting like 10 instances, effectively blacklisting the rest of them?

is anyone mad? the defederation posts are comedy gold

Yes, cause it is sensible to see how a feature interacts with your community. This is the reform approach with feedback and decision making by the community. It is also a good practice to reflect and tune what you do.
