c/worseposting or c/beanposting to contain the beanis spam (hexbear.net)

I get that some people really love beanis, but the volume of beanis posts in badposting is really overwhelming for others who just don't get it or find it funny.

Since there isn't (to my knowledge) a word-based post blocking feature for individual users, can beanis posting get its own comm so that people don't have to completely block badposting to stop seeing 50 posts of beans dildos and beans in cup holders and shit?

The joke itself isn't the problem, it's the volume of the posts

The first four or five pages of the feed have been majority beanis spam all day

that's kinda what the comm is for though. i don't think putting a smaller trashcan next to the big trashcan is gonna make the trash stink less

Kinda sucks that a couple users can decide it's their own personal trash can and make it unusable for others though. I've said elsewhere I like that there's a place to try out low-effort bits that may or may not land.

Making badposting unusable for anything other than beanisposting is just going to move those low-effort bits back to other comms, undoing the idea of the containment comm.

i don't think that will be the case. those comms are still going to enforce their rules and weed out low-quality posts regardless of whether or not the posts in badposting are to everyone's taste

Again, it's not about the posts themselves, it's the volume of them, and the fact that the spam increases when people ask the posters to slow down

it's the toilet of the website, of course it is filled with shit

It sucks that a few petulant posters are determined to make it so other people can't shit in it

you can absolutely shit in it as well, you just shouldn't be surprised that other people's shit smells worse than your own

If you wait like 12 hours you should be able to start shitting in it again.

Community bits don't generally last longer than a day.

I've never encounter this problem of my feeding being nothing but beanis. At worst I've seen it be a bit much for like an hour tops.

Wouldn't your non-beanis bad post just stand out more against the backdrop of beanis? How is this a bad thing from the perspective of someone wanting to try out /c/badposting?

No, because the beanis spam drives people to block the comm when they'd otherwise enjoy badposting. Just look at the number of people in this thread who've said they've done so

And when /c/beanisposting gets created, a new meme will take over /c/badposting, and when people whine about that meme being spammed too much, /c/stalememeposting1 will get created, and when yet another meme is being spammed too much, /c/stalememeposting2 will get created, leading to another meme being spammed too much and so on. /c/badposting by its very design will always be spammy with a few memes floating to the top. It's just more noticeable to you right now because the FOTY meme is a meme you don't find funny.

I also find it funny that people are complaining about beanis spam when Hexbear is being hit with "I'm curious" spam. At least you can just block /c/badposting if you think beanis sucks. Meanwhile, "I'm curious" spam is throughout the site.

i'm curious will be fresh for a few more hours. beanis has been here for months and is played out

Who cares? I don't understand the hostility to making a separate comm, comms are free. Beanis has been around for months, if not longer, and if another meme gets this stale and played out to the point where there have been multiple struggle sessions about containing it, there's literally no reason not to make a containment comm.

there's literally no reason not to make a containment comm.

We already have a containment comm. It's called /c/badposting. You want a containment comm for the containment comm and presumably multiple containment comms of the containment comm since /c/badposting would just spam a different meme if beanis gets banned there.

Who cares? I don't understand the hostility to making a separate comm, comms are free.

Because a bunch of dead comms is itself a form of spam. Who wants to scroll through a bunch of dead comms clogging up the list in the communities tab? A lot of the dead comms like /c/taylorswift or /c/chapotraphouse3 should just be merged with /c/main, /c/chapotraphouse, /c/memes, or even /c/badposting.

It goes back to my point about you being annoyed about one particular form of spam while not caring about another. You don't care about "I'm curious" spam or dead comms spam because you either don't care or think they're funny while you care about beanis spam because you think beanis is cringe. It's fine to have your own personal preference, but you're not the only person who browses this website and not everyone shares the same personal preference as you.

Seriously, nobody here goes, "all the memes on /c/badposting are funny except for the beanis posting." The vast majority of people here either block /c/badposting because they think both beanis and non-beanis /c/badposting posts are unfunny low-effort trash or they do not care about /c/badposting. And now that I think about it, beanis isn't even the most used meme on /c/badposting. The most used meme is pissing/farting/shitting/sharding. How many /c/badposting posts have a punchline that ends in the expulsion of solid (shit), liquid (piss), or gaseous (fart) waste? So, this whole post is just you not liking beanis even though beanis is arguably not even the most overused meme/joke on /c/badposting.
