The first congestion charge scheme for vehicles in the US has come into effect in New York.

Car drivers will pay up to $9 (£7) a day, with varying rates for other vehicles.

A judge denied an eleventh-hour effort Friday by neighbouring New Jersey state officials to block the scheme on grounds of its environmental impact on adjoining areas.

I’d sure love to see what the hell they think is gunna happen there.

    Driving into NYC from NJ sucks already. I try to never do it. Also the toll is already like $15 so what is a few more dollars? I don't know why anyone would want to drive in NYC.

    There was already a congestion charge, you just pay for it with your time. Now people who have the money get it easier to drive around.
