Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.
Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.
There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

I guess flooding every social media platform with misogynistic propaganda has worked pretty well
Tried to use Tiktok a while back, had to stop after a week because once the algorithm "realized" I was a man it would not stop sending me Joe Rogan clips, thirst traps of young women, and other incredibly misogynist (and racist, and any other sort of reactionary) content. It was pretty fucking heinous. Lasering that into young minds that can't defend themselves is a deeply upsetting crime against humanity.
YouTube shorts is the same, no matter how many times you try to filter it out, you get that kind of shit, or daily wire propaganda. It's incessant
I never got that with TikTok, but youtube shorts is almost always trying to feed me some right wing bullshit. My TikTok on the other hand is almost all trans women and stuff like makeup tutorials (and some cute pups), and it was like this was long before I realized I was trans.
Tbh I don't use tiktok much, just to open links people send.
That might be why some people are having issues with TikTok. You do have to train it a bit, but once you like a few videos it will start to shift. I think that’s part of the reason why TikTok got so popular in the first place, since it really does get good at providing what you want to see the more you use it.

My tiktok feed is almost nothing but Palestinians begging for their lives.
I wasn't involved in leftist politics at the time but even still I kept blocking/telling TikTok to stop sending me these videos and it would just never stop
Seriously, I have a roommate who is ostensibly a nice guy, never says anything sexist/racist or whatever, and our living situation involves a Black/indigenous woman. But I hear him listening to TikToks all the time that are just the most vile misogynist or weirdly tradtional viewpoints ("women, if you make dinner but your husband don't like it, what do you do as a good wife?" etc). I feel like he's probably not even choosing these toks, they're just unavoidable.
My TikTok feed is full of communists, he's engaging with the content, and it's responding in kind.
swear to god tho your algo gets reset every so often if you engage with commie content regularly. my fyp will be good for like a week then all of a sudden its back to liberal/fascist content till i retrain the fuckin thing
They have to keep testing their users with potential new content they may start liking so that the app stays new and refreshing and people keep coming back

In a communist utopia, if you wanted to watch trashy social media garbage while you take the train home after a long day you should be forced to hunt for it in one big alphabetical directory that looks like mid-‘90s Yahoo. Recommendation algorithms are inherently reactionary and after the revolution they must be abolished.

I think for me it was probably that I liked watching sports clips. So it didn't matter how many times I tried to block reactionary shit fromy feed
Idk it might be because he does fuck with motivational/grindset sort of shit. He's also white. When I was on TikTok it just kept feeding me dancing Latina women because it knew I'm a male and I can speak Spanish lol. I successfully trained it to feed me MOSTLY stuff about life in rural China and music stuff but the garbage was always waiting to bubble to the surface

Yeah I really feel like the app is kind of default shitty and then if you're a milquetoast white guy like him then the app just feeds you progressively more sexist right-wingy content because you're a white guy who doesn't critically engage with the content. It's like it only changes if you somehow signal you're non-white non-male
The sad thing is, you try pointing this out and they call you crazy, and then say the nebulous thing they call "the left" controls social media and media in general. We're so fucked.
