The next two elections, these mid-terms and the next presidential election, are probably the most important in our young nations history. We can absolutely still make a difference through voting, voter outreach, and community organizing. Any doomer posts designed to dissuade action and voting just screams of the same interference we've come to expect from russia and their allies.

I won't turn a blind eye while my beloved Lemmy becomes inundated with power-abusing trolls trying to quash dissent to their lame efforts at manipulation.

For now, being banned from that instance is a badge of honor and intelligence. Congrats!

Oh, sorry, only fascists think so narrowly. I can actually argue my viewpoint. Which is that your worldview seems entirely black/white.

There's no room for nuance. Yes, I'm sick of feckless do-nothing democrats like chuck schumer, hakeem jeffries, gavin newsome, and nancy pelosi.... but saying "all democrats are fascist" is ignoring all of the great democratic socialists and progressives that absolutely are making a difference. AOC, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Ohmar, Zohran Mamdani.

When you ban and delete comments, you're silencing dissent in much the same way as GASP fascists!

So I think I have a point, and you have yet to make one beyond "nuh-huh" and doomer posts designed to dissuade voters.

I'm surprised you're still posting after that Data center explosion. Stay safe comrade. Perhaps fleeing to another country would be your best option 😕

Coming in with the "both sides are actually bad" when talking about the ungodly massive amount of rape that occurs and the teeny tiny small percentage of false accusations that happen is a truly adolescent, apologist, and downright horrible take.

"Won't somebody please think of the rape gangs feelings!?"

Lemmy has it's share of trolls, but we also have our share of russian propaganda trying to influence our election. This specific moderator of a very large Lemmy community (LateStageCapitalism) has been posting "democrats are actually the fascists!" memes, while banning/censoring everyone who speaks out in favor of the very people attempting to thwart the literal fascist regime in power right now.

Moved from Midwest to West to South. In the South, they use "How are ya?" as a greeting. I was not aware. So for the first few weeks/months, I was answering them honestly and just loving how friendly everyone was!

Took me a while to understand you're just supposed to say "Good-n-you?"

    Felt like a fuckin idiot.

Poklek also pleaded guilty to publishing obscene videos for gain, as well as possession of indecent images of children and possession of ketamine.

uhhhh, how about getting him more than 2 fucking years??

The judge said Poklek would be released after serving about a third of his prison sentence under the Sentencing Act 2026, and called for longer sentences for animal abuse, which currently has a five-year maximum.

Exxon did not respond to requests for comment, but it has denied misleading the public or investors about climate change.

    That's a lie.

“We believe the legal and factual theories set forth in these proceedings are meritless and represent an inappropriate attempt to use the court system to usurp the proper role of policymakers in addressing the societal challenges of climate change.”

Read: We only want the people we have direct control over (policy makers they bribe) to have any say in this matter.

Asked whether a 2018 press release, which said Exxon anticipated “10,000 barrels of algae biofuel per day could be produced by 2025,” was misleading, the scientist said “yes,” adding, “All the clauses in there are patently false.”

That's their own scientist calling them liars.

With the threat of climate action looming, he (Sprow) wrote, the company’s research and development on “Greenhouse” should have two primary goals: “Protect the value of our resources (oil, gas, coal),” and “Preserve Exxon’s business options.”

Sprow then laid out an agenda for how to achieve those ends.

With modeling critical to climate science, he wrote, “it could be considered important to be at the forefront of this modeling effort.” Sprow proposed “supporting a person on staff at one of the leading modeling centers (e.g. Princeton) or by sending one of our people to work in such a center.”

That's their CEO telling them that "now that climate change is out of the bag, we need to focus on protecting our business (you know, as opposed to the only planet we have), and we need to engage in criminal subterfuge to either bribe a climate modeling expert, or insert one of our own agents into the field."

“continue to question the scientific basis and cite the high economic cost” of policies to address climate change and “avoid pressures to negotiate a compromise.”

That's a quote from a meeting of oil executives, laying out the framework of their carpet denial of climate change. The strategy is something you've seen before. Disrupt action by "just asking questions, while bringing up the cost" and "avoid accountability."

This is the same strategy republikkkans use to deny you healthcare and justice. Except in this case it's being weaponized to help them achieve wealth by destroying our only planet.

The place that handles my rental says "good news! you can pay by credit card on-line now!" and then just quietly tacks on an extra $8 charge on top of the credit card also getting their beak wet. So now I gotta pay like $15 just to pay my godamn rent??

I refuse to pay these BS fees. I only ever drop off checks. That still only costs me for the amount I pay for the checks, which is only a few cents per If memory serves.

What's even worse is when you're in debt and you gotta pay fees just to make a payment on that. Living in america means you're always just a couple steps from debtors prison or living on the street.

Recently went on a date, and after a couple hours in the coffee shop we went for a walk where she started looking for something to eat. She said she doesn't eat beef or chicken. She's not vegetarian but she is gluten free and wants thai food but the thai place is closed so let's walk and visibly confirm there's no more thai places open and in my head I'm just like "OMFG I forgot how much I hate having to deal with another person while eating/trying to find food."

The whole time I'm just like, I hope I can leave soon so I can go eat whatever the fuck I want.

Just about every single person they quoted in that (terrifying) article asked to stay anonymous for fear of retaliation by the government.

This is not normal. This is some seriously dystopian bullshit.

I have a sticker on my water bottle, says "nazi lives don't matter." My grandmother asked me if I feel nervous walking around with that, and it just made me think "Why should I feel nervous about insulting nazis in America!?" It's truly a sign of how terrible everything has gotten. The nazi far-right problem has become so widespread, it's tendrils stuck so deep into our government, that it makes me question if it is actually safe to be anti-nazi?

The article talks about an ICE detention center that the community railed against, and got successfully cancelled via a court order. But the rule of law evidently doesn't mean anything anymore, because they are just using it anyway and lying about it. The government is no longer beholden to the checks and balances offered by the judiciary, and that's fucking terrifying.

My parents got me braces for my top set, and they're super easy to floss, almost never had a problem with them. Had to wear a brace stretcher thing at night that hurt and was awkward, so they took pity on me and got me a retainer for my bottom set, which I lost almost immediately, twice, and then POOF like magic, they stopped giving a shit about fixing my teeth lol

So my bottom set of teeth is a horror show, is super difficult to floss, and gets mad cavities. I shoulda just got both done up by braces at the same time. Kinda weird they didn't now that I think about it 🤔
