I'm still against the way copyright works, but copyright laws being applied one way for us and another way for AI corporations is much worse.

I was thinking about voter suppression and systems to avoid it the other day.

Imagine a system that runs as normally (either first past or a sensible voting system) unless >50% of eligible voters fail to vote or vote 'none' or something like that, and then a random citizen is put in power.

While it would probably help prevent active voter suppression, I have to imagine a combined system where some members are lifelong politicians and some are just thrown in the deep end would not work super well. Given that most elected officials need to spend most of their first term just learning how things work. Though that is also a problem that needs to be addressed regardless.

Nope, time and again it is shown that the most effective way to house people without homes is to give them homes. By providing no-strings housing first, you make all the other issues easier to deal with.

We've also shown time and again that the strongest predictor for unhoused populations is the cost of property. And at the same time the number of empty homes in a lot of the western world greatly outnumber the number of unhoused.

But giving homes to the unhoused or doing anything to lower property values or prevent the rich from hoarding property would make the wealthy elite upset.

There was once a thought that the linden tree had a sap that was toxic to bees. A paper that I found claims that the more likely cause of bee death is actually starvation. I don't think ads for gambling, drugs, fad diets etc. Should be shown to anyone. But I especially think that they (or any advertising) should be knowingly shown to children.

It almost makes me want to push for an advertising freeze on anyone who can't or won't prove their ID and age.

But I know it won't actually result in companies lobbying against requiring ID, it would just result in them lobbying to advertise more directly to children.
